Applying to be an Apple Distinguished Educator

Well, I'm taking the plunge: I am applying to be an Apple Distinguished Educator, Class of 2017.  I am excited and nervous; wavering between tears, denial, confidence, and nausea for the last two weeks.  Applications are due Wednesday, and I've been busy putting my video and application together all week-end.

My first hurdle was figuring out how to access the application, which took me the better part of three days.  I finally figured it out, with the help of some lovely people on #ADEchat.  If you are having trouble, too, don't fret: I made a video to help you out.

I want to be an ADE because I want to change education and the world.  That might sound corny, but I wake up every day thinking about this, and thinking about how I can encourage my students to do the same.

I am not counting on being named to this class, because there are so many excellent educators out there, but I am trying my hardest with what I have available to me at this moment in time.  If I make it, I will be over the moon.  If I don't, I will try again in two years.  Either way, it's a learning experience.  And as Lyle Lovett wondered, "But what would you be if you didn't even try?  You have to try."

So, here I am.

Life...is so uncertain.
